Tides & Currents

Safely paddling the waters between Beal Island and Hockomock Bay or the waters southwest of the Knubble requires awareness of the tides and especially the currents. Below are links to the three areas marked in RED on the chart.  For Lower Hell Gate and Lowe Point, the links are to the NOAA current predictions at those locations.  The current in the waters between KBC and the beach at Beal Island is generally 1 knot or less. The timing of the current’s ebb and flow in the waters between KBC and the beach at Beal Island closely coincides with the timing for the ebb and flow at Lowe Point. The “Robinhood Tide” link is to NOAA tide predictions and that tide essentially the same for the KBC, and Beal Island Beaches.  f you are confused about tides, currents, and/or navigating on the water, consider taking the Intro to Coastal Navigation Course we offer.
